But did you know that if you have health insurance, it could be used to cover your massage therapy sessions?

Does health insurance cover massage therapy sessions?

If you’re in need of massage therapy your sessions could potentially be covered by health insurance. This way, you can focus on improving your health and movement without worrying about the cost.

However, cover can vary depending on the provider’s plan and the specific reasons for seeking massage therapy. For example, if you have a specific condition that can benefit from massage therapy, such as chronic pain or an injury, your health insurance may cover the cost of your sessions.

In some cases, you may need a referral from your GP in order for the sessions to be covered by insurance.

It’s best to check with your insurer to see if you will be able to claim the cost back. They’ll be able to provide a full run down of what is covered under your policy. Insurers may ask for details, such as the type of massage therapy, the duration of treatment, and the qualifications of the massage therapist.

Why doesn’t insurance always cover massage?

While many people find it to be a beneficial form of treatment, insurance companies may not cover massages because they are not always considered medically necessary.

What conditions can massage therapy help to treat?

If you’re unsure whether your insurance policy covers massage therapy, the best course of action is to call them and enquire. They may require a referral from your doctor, which is usually not a problem. During the call, it’s worth asking about the number of sessions your policy allows as different companies can have limits.

Once you receive massage therapy at Hatt’s, we can provide a receipt for the treatment, so you can submit it to your insurance provider for reimbursement.
